Diana Ross Named Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient


President Barack Obama named Connecticut resident Diana Ross a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Monday.
Ross was among 20 other recipients. The list includes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Ellen DeGeneres, Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks, Bill and Melinda Gates and Michael Jordan."I always love doing this event, but this is a particularly impressive class," Obama said at the ceremony before making a joke about Michael Jordan's appearance in the movie Space Jam.The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor in the United States.
Ross owns a home in Greenwich.
She is a major musical influence with a career that has spanned more than five decades. She is an Academy Award nominee, inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
